RGS Welcome Tour 2015
As it is tradition, on October 22th, the new RGS Cohort was invited to get to know Essen on a Welcome Tour organized by the 11th Cohort.
This year’s Welcome Tour started with an exciting and informative guided tour at the “Zeche Zollverein”. The “Zeche Zollverein” used to be one of the largest coal mines and coking plants in Europe in the second half of the 20th century. After closing down in the early 90s it is still considered an architectural masterpiece and has been declared an UNESCO World Heritage Site. The tour followed the way of the coal through the mine, where the students got to know the production process of coal as well as learning about the work and life of the miners underground.
After the tour the old and new RGSians enjoyed a nice get-together with traditional german food and drinks at the local restaurant “Borbecker Dampfe”.
