RGS meets German council of economic experts
On November 21st the doctoral students of the Ruhr Graduate School in Economics (RGS Econ) met the German council of economic experts.
Starting with an introduction by the chair of the council and director of the RGS Econ (Prof. Dr. Christoph M. Schmidt), the doctoral students got to know about the objectives, the structure as well as the duties and rights of the council. Furthermore, Prof. Dr. Christoph Schmidt gave insights into this year's annual report.
Following Prof. Dr. Christoph Schmidt, two former RGS students and now current staff members of the council presented two chapters of this year's annual report in more detail. Dr. Tobias Körner (4th cohort of the RGS Econ) presented the chapter on European financial markets. Talking about the financial crisis and the reform steps taken in the recent past an interesting discussion with the RGS students emerged. Then, Dr. Marcus Klemm (5th cohort of the RGS Econ) presented the chapter on labor markets. Again the RGS students engaged in an interesting discussion on income inequality and the minimum wage.
The meeting closed with a buffet lunch were the students got the chance to discuss recent topics in economics with the staff members and the chair of the economic council.
